New Zealand captain Sophie Devine sealed the win for her team against Sri Lanka by hitting a six in the 15th match of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. The game was held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE on Saturday, October 12,.

On the third ball of the 18th over bowled by Sugandika Kumari, Devine charged down the pitch and sent the length delivery soaring over deep midwicket with full force. This was the first six of the match and the winning shot, as the White Ferns secured a commanding victory by eight wickets with 15 balls to spare.

Chasing a target of 116, openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer put together a solid 49-run partnership for the first wicket off 45 balls. Bates was dismissed for 17 runs off 22 balls by Sachini Nisansala. Plimmer delivered a stellar performance, scoring 53 off 44 balls, including four boundaries.

Amelia Kerr and captain Sophie Devine then added an unbeaten 23 runs off 16 balls. Kerr finished with 34* runs from 31 balls, hitting three boundaries while Devine contributed 13* off eight balls, sealing the victory for the White Ferns.

New Zealand currently sits in third place on the Group A points table with two wins from three matches while Sri Lanka has had a disappointing tournament, losing all four games.

After electing to bat first, Sri Lanka struggled to get going, losing opener Vishmi Gunaratne for eight runs off 15 balls. Captain Chamari Athapaththu (35 runs off 41 balls) and Harshita Madavi (18 runs off 29 balls) formed a 48-run partnership for the second wicket, but it took them 60 balls, which hindered the team's run rate.

Nilakshi de Silva remained unbeaten on 14 runs off 11 balls, as the Island nation concluded their innings at 115/5 in 20 overs. Amelia Kerr excelled for New Zealand, taking two wickets while allowing just 13 runs in her four-over spell.
