Young England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir replicated England attacker Cole Palmer's famous 'cold' celebration after dismissing Alick Athanaze on Day 4 of the second Test against West Indies in Trent Bridge on Sunday, July 21. The 20-year-old starred with 5-41 in 11.1 overs as England slammed the Windies by 241 runs to clinch the second Test and the three-match series 2-0.

Earlier in the day, the hosts resumed their second innings on 248-3. They finished on 425 as Joe Root (122) and Harry Brook (109) hit impressive tons. Chasing a target of 385, West Indies were bowled out for 143 in 36.1 overs as Bashir registered career-best Test figures in an innings.

One of his best deliveries produced the wicket of Athanaze (1) to leave the visitors reeling at 82-5 in the 19th over. The 20-year-old offie got one to drift, dip and turn. The canny variations caught the batter off guard, and Athanaze could only nick the ball to slip. A pleased Bashir celebrated by briefly rubbing his arms in Palmer style.

The off-spinner had a fabulous game, as he also dismissed Kirk McKenzie (1) and first-innings Kavem Hodge (0) to put England firmly in the driver's seat.

It was Bashir who brought the curtains down on the Trent Bridge Test, claiming the last two West Indies wickets to complete his five-fer. He dismissed Jason Holder for 37 and Shamar Joseph for 8. Both batters were clean bowled.

Apart from the off-spinner, England pace bowlers also chipped in with key scalps in the first match since James Anderson's retirement. Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson picked up two wickets each, while Mark Wood claimed one.

"Bash showed the world what he is about" - Ben Stokes hails Shoaib Bashir over super show

After the game, England captain Ben Stokes hailed Bashir for his excellent performance in the Trent Bridge Test, especially in the second innings.

Stating that the wicket was not tailor-made for spin bowling, the England captain added that the youngster varied his pace and line really well.

"The comeback after West Indies' opening partnership was quite remarkable and Bash (Shoaib Bashir) showed the world what he is about.

"On a wicket that has not necessarily offered a lot for the spinners in the game, the ability he had to change his pace, change his line, manipulate how he wanted the ball to react out of the surface, was top class," Stokes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports

In five Tests, Bashir has claimed 24 wickets at an average of 29.83, with three five-wicket hauls.
