Shimron Hetmyer smashed a huge six in The Hundred clash between Welsh Fire and London Spirit at Lord’s in London on Thursday, August 1. The left-hander generated huge power to deposit the ball almost in the second tier for a maximum.

The shot came off the 74th ball of Welsh Fire’s run chase. David Payne bowled a good length ball at the stumps and Hetmyer cleared his front foot and then slammed it high into the stands at midwicket. The ball went sailing into the crowd, leaving the fans in awe.

Hetmyer, who plays the role of a finisher, smashed an unbeaten 30 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 142.86. He hit two sixes and as many boundaries during his innings. The Windies batter slammed a six to get the team over the line.


Shimron Hetmyer helps London Spirit return to winning ways in The Hundred

A brilliant finish from Shimron Hetmyer helped London Spirit beat Welsh Fire by three wickets in The Hundred on Thursday.

Chasing a modest target of 95, the Spirit achieved the target with 13 balls to spare. Apart from Hetmyer, captain Daniel Lawrence scored 29 runs off 27 deliveries, comprising one six and two boundaries. Ollie Pope (12 off nine) was the other batter to reach double digits. Matt Henry and Haris Rauf bagged three wickets apiece for Welsh Fire, while Mason Crane bagged a solitary wicket.

Batting first, Welsh Fire managed 94-9 in their allotted 100 balls. Luke Wells top scored with 23 runs off eight deliveries, hitting two sixes and as many boundaries. Jonny Bairstow, captain Tom Abell, Glenn Phillips, and David Willey were the other batters to reach double figures.

Nathan Ellis and Liam Dawson emerged as the pick of London Spirit bowlers, returning with three wickets each. Daniel Worrall, Olly Stone, and Andre Russell bagged one wicket each.

With the win, London Spirit registered their first win of the ongoing season in The Hundred after losing their first two games. Meanwhile, Welsh Fire registered two back-to-back losses after winning the opening game of the tournament.
