[Watch] Shikhar Dhawan shines with maiden half-century in Legends League Cricket 2024 against Southern Super Stars

Gujarat Greats captain Shikhar Dhawan showcased his excellent form by scoring his maiden fifty in Match 4 of Legends League Cricket 2024 against the Southern Super Stars. The game was held at Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur on Monday, September 23.

Chasing 145, Shikhar Dhawan got off to a strong start, scoring his first 25 runs in just 12 balls. He and Morne van Wyk formed a 63-run partnership off 43 balls before the latter was dismissed for 15 runs off 19 balls. The left-handed batter brought up his fifty in 37 balls, marking his first of the tournament.

The 38-year-old scored 52 runs off 48 balls, hitting three boundaries and as many sixes. However, aside from Shikhar Dhawan, no other Gujarat batters contributed significantly, with Lendl Simmons (7) and Mohammad Kaif (5) dismissed cheaply.

Meanwhile, Asghar Afghan (3) and Manan Sharma (10) also struggled to make an impact. The Greats finished at 118/9 in their allotted 20 overs, falling short by 26 runs. Pawan Negi took three wickets for the Southern Super Stars.


Chaturanga de Silva excels with the bat for the Southern Super Stars

Gujarat Greats won the toss and opted to bowl first. Parthiv Patel had a disappointing outing, scoring four runs off nine balls. Martin Guptill (22) and Hamilton Masakadza (20) struggled to convert their starts into significant innings.

Kedar Jadhav was dismissed for one by Manan Sharma, while Pawan Negi managed only two runs off six balls, leaving the Super Stars at 65 for five.

Captain Dinesh Karthik contributed 18 runs off 19 balls, but it was Chaturanga de Silva who truly excelled for the Super Stars. The left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 53 runs off 28 balls, striking six boundaries and two sixes. His knock helped guide the Southern Super Stars to a total of 144-9 in their 20 overs.

Manan Sharma was outstanding for Gujarat Greats, taking six wickets for just 17 runs in his four-over spell.
