West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph played a brilliant cameo on Day 3 of the second Test against England on Saturday, July 20, at Trent Bridge to help his side surpass the hosts' first-inning score. England scored 416 runs in their innings thanks to a century from vice-captain Ollie Pope (121 runs).

The left-handed batter came to bat in the 99th over when Chris Woakes got two consecutive wickets to put the West Indies 386/9 after 98.5 overs, with the Caribbean still trailing by 30 runs. Joseph enjoyed his time at the crease as he hit England pacer Gus Atkinson for two maximums and a boundary in the 107th over.

He, along with Joshua Da Silva, stitched together a 71-run partnership for the last wicket as the West Indies took a 41-run lead. Joseph scored 33 runs off 27 balls, smashing five boundaries and two sixes, before getting dismissed by Mark Wood. West Indies scored 457 runs in 111.5 overs.

Here’s the video of Joseph’s inning:

Keeper-batter Da Silva played a brilliant hand, as he remained unbeaten on 82 off 122 balls, missing out on a well-deserved century.

An excellent batting display leads West Indies to fight back

The West Indies could only manage 257 runs in two innings in the first Test match. However, they came back strongly in the second, with captain Kraigg Braithwaite leading the way with an important 48-run inning.

Then it was Kavem Hodge’s show; the right-handed batter scored his maiden Test century. He was well supported by Alick Athanaza, who smashed 82 runs off 99 balls. On Day 3, Joshua Da Silva led the way as the West Indies took an important 41-run lead.

At the time of writing, at Tea on Day 3, England had started well in their second innings. Zak Crawley was unfortunate, as he was found short of his crease on the bowler’s end. Since then, Ben Duckett (61* off 68 balls) and Ollie Pope (48* off 62 balls) have looked good as England aims to set a big target for the West Indies.
