In the fifth game of The Hundred Men's Competition 2024, Birmingham Phoenix player Sean Abbott was on fire against the London Spirit, taking four wickets in his first eight deliveries. The match took place on Saturday, July 27, at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The Australian pacer bowled 10 balls on the trot (21 to 30). He first dismissed Michael Pepper on the 21st ball, who scored 16 off 12. The second wicket came on the 23rd ball when Adam Rossington was caught brilliantly by Dan Mousley on the deep square leg boundary.

A ball later, Abbott got rid of Daniel Lawrence. The ball went through the gap between pad and bat, as Lawrence could only manage one off two balls. The London Spirit found themselves in deep trouble at 30/4 in 25 balls.

The last wicket came on the 28th ball in the form of Ryan Higgins, who didn’t trouble the scorers. The London Spirit went from 28/2 to 30/5 in just eight balls.

Here’s the video of a brilliant spell of bowling by Sean Abbott:

Sean Abbott bowled 20 deliveries in the game, conceding only 14 runs and taking four wickets. A decent contribution towards the end from Liam Dawson (36) and Andre Russell (37) helped the London Spirit finish at 127/7 in their 100 balls.

Birmingham Phoenix ended up on the winning side in a nervy contest with Sean Abbott remaining unbeaten

Chasing a target of 128, Birmingham Phoenix didn’t start well as they lost four wickets for 20 runs, including captain Moeen Ali (0) and star batter Liam Livingstone (4).

Dan Mousley, who took a brilliant catch in the first innings, carried his confidence into batting and stitched together a 69-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Jacob Bethell.

Mousley scored 39 off 38 balls, while Bethell smashed 43 from 27 balls. Benny Howell then scored a quick-fire 24* and finished the game for Birmingham with a four. Moeen Ali’s side won the match by three wickets with just one ball remaining.
