Faf du Plessis-led Saint Lucia Kings lifted the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 trophy after beating Guyana Amazon Warrior in the final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, October 6. After being asked to bat first, the Amazon Warriors posted 138/8 in 20 overs on a sluggish surface, with Dwaine Pretorius (25) being the top-scorer. Left-arm leg-spinner Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings with a three-wicket haul.

Saint Lucia Kings then found themselves in trouble at 51/4 at the halfway stage in the chase. But Roston Chase (39*) and Aaron Jones (48*) shared an unbeaten 88-run partnership to help their side chase the target in 18.1 overs.

Faf du Plessis's celebratory walk with the CPL trophy while going to his Saint Lucia teammates grabbed everyone's attention. It resembled Indian captain Rohit Sharma's walk before lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in June.

"I have always wanted to deliver a trophy for this franchise" - Saint Lucia Kings captain Faf du Plessis after winning CPL 2024

At the presentation ceremony, Saint Lucia Kings skipper Faf du Plessis expressed delight at leading the franchise to their first-ever trophy. Reflecting on the memorable victory, Du Plessis said:

"I have always wanted to deliver a trophy for this franchise. It is a difficult place to play the finals and in the last two games, we beat them. I would have liked this a little bit easier but it was a bit of a low-scoring thriller. It was a good total, I felt that we could back up and chasing 138 we had positive discussions in the dressing room. In a way, we were there and there about but they made a comeback with the ball in hand."
"The way Chase and Jones chased it down was incredible. In a chase, everyone wants to go bang and we lost wickets. We thought the game was gone and the chat was to not to leave the game late. If you look at the team, we have played really well and different guys at different stages have raised their hands." he continued.

The South African added:

"The emotion in St. Lucia was on a high after the Olympic Gold and we are really happy to give them something more to cheer."

Saint Lucia's Roston Chase bagged the Player of the Match award in the final for his all-round show.
