India captain Rohit Sharma and his teammates were shocked as Akash Deep’s DRS review proved correct in the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur on Day 1 (Friday, September 27). Akash prompted Rohit to challenge the decision after the on-field umpire adjudged it not out but the bowler was sure about the LBW decision.

The Indian skipper decided to take the review at the last minute and the review showed that the ball would’ve crashed onto the leg stump. The decision was reversed with surprising reactions from Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and others.

Sharing the video on X, the BCCI wrote:

“When the giant screen showed three Reds. Akash Deep gets his second courtesy of a successful DRS!”

Akash Deep made his Test debut against England earlier this year. The speedster took three wickets in the fourth Test held in Ranchi. He recently bagged nine wickets in the Duleep Trophy game for India A against India B.

The Bihar-born pacer also scalped two wickets in the opening Test against Bangladesh. The 27-year-old is likely to be retained for the upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand in October.

Akash first dismissed Zakir Hasan, thanks to a stunning catch from Yashasvi Jaiswal at slips. He then reduced the visitors to 29-2 by dismissing Shadman Islam (24 runs off 36 balls) LBW.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh were 42/2, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque at the crease.

Rohit Sharma and company are currently leading the two-match Test series against Bangladesh 1-0, courtesy of a 280-run victory over the visitors in Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged Player of the Match for scoring a century and picking up a 6-fer. Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill also scored hundreds.
