[Watch] Rishabh Pant trapped LBW while attempting a reverse sweep against Rashid Khan in IND vs AFG 2024 T20 World Cup clash

Afghanistan v India: Super Eight - ICC Men
Rishabh Pant paid the sin for trying to take on Rashid Khan in his first over

Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant lost his wicket to Rashid Khan in the crucial 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 stage clash against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The left-handed batter made a brisk start, but failed to capitalize on it after the powerplay.

Pant came into bat in the third over of the innings after Rohit Sharma's dismissal. He got into a groove straightaway, scoring four boundaries off his first six deliveries, and racing off to 19 runs in no time. His aggression played a huge role in India capitalizing on the powerplay as Kohli took time to get settled at the other end.

However, Pant opted for one shot too many as he tried to bring out the fancy reverse sweep off Rashid Khan's first over, right after the powerplay. The left-handed batter, who had already executed a couple of unorthodox shots in his short stay at the crease, got in shape to play the reverse sweep against the very full delivery.

However, he got no contact at all with the ball and was trapped in front. He was adjudged out right away but proceeded to go up for a review after a brief discussion with Kohli. However, DRS showed three reds, leading to Pant walking back to the pavilion and India losing their review.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Rishabh Pant scored 20 runs off 11 deliveries, and his knock included four boundaries at a strike rate of 181.

Team India in a stable position despite losing wickets including Pant

India were reduced to 54/2 after seven overs when Pant was dismissed. The Men in Blue's crisis worsened after Virat Kohli departed in Rashid Khan's second over. The leg-spinner struck in his third over as well to trap Shivam Dube LBW.

However, Suryakumar Yadav is batting as if playing on a different strip and has ensured the flow of momentum despite the lack of partnerships.

As of writing, Team India have crossed the 100-run mark in the 13th over, with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya at the crease.
