India in the driver's seat in the 1st Test

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first. India were off to a disastrous start as they were reeling at 34-3 after losing their openers and Virat Kohli early. Things got worse for the hosts as the scorecard read 144-6 at one stage.

But a crucial 199-run seventh-wicket partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja ensured Team India posted a challenging first-innings total. While local boy Ashwin scored 113 runs, star all-rounder Jadeja contributed 86 runs. Eventually, Rohit Sharma's men finished their first innings at 376 runs.

In reply, the visitors were bundled out for just 149 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah being the chief tormentor, picking up four wickets. With a comfortable 227-run first innings lead, India are currently in the driver's seat.

The hosts will be looking to extend their lead and set a mammoth target for Bangladesh, who have to bat fourth in testing conditions. India would want to bowl the visitirs out as quickly as possible to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.

India are currently 432 runs ahead with seven wickets in hand.
