Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja missed his century by 14 runs in the first innings of the Test series opener against Bangladesh at Chepauk on Friday, September 20. He was out in the third over of Day 2 from Taskin Ahmed.

The hosts were in deep trouble at 144/6 on Thursday before Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin added 199 runs for the seventh wicket to put the team in the ascendancy.

Ashwin was unbeaten on 102 at stumps on Day 1, while Jadeja was batting at 86. The duo was expected to continue to build on their partnership but Taskin bowled some decent lines early on to trouble the batters. He was eventually rewarded when he got the better of Jadeja.

It was a short-of-a-length delivery that angled away from the batter. Jadeja didn't move his feet at all and poked at it away from his body. The left-hander found a healthy edge and Litton Das completed an easy catch behind the stumps.

Ravindra Jadeja was seemingly unhappy to miss out on another century on his way back to the dressing room.

The dismissal saw Akash Deep walk out to the middle. The No. 9 batter scored valuable 17 runs off 30 deliveries before miscuing a big hit against Taskin Ahmed. At the time of writing, India were 371/8, with Jasprit Bumrah sharing the crease with centurion Ashwin.

"His ball striking makes him an asset" - Wasim Jaffer lauds Ravindra Jadeja

Saurashtra-born Ravindra Jadeja has come to India's rescue with the bat every time the team have witnessed an early collapse, be it in India or overseas. He proved himself once again with another timely knock of 86 runs.

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer showered praise on Jadeja for playing an important knock and saving the Men in Blue.

"One of the most improved Test batters," Jaffer wrote on Instagram. "His temperament and ability to leave the ball make him ideal in case of a rescue job and his ball striking makes him an asset when the need is to hammer home the advantage. Another invaluable knock. Well played @royalnavghan 👏🏻 #INDvBAN."

After his excellent performance with the bat, Jadeja will now aim to showcase his prowess with the ball as India look to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
