Afghanistan batter Rahmat Shah endured an unlucky dismissal in the third and final ODI against South Africa at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday as Lungi Ngidi inadvertently affected it. It proved to be a lucky break for the Proteas as they struggled to dismiss the right-handed batter in the second ODI.

The dismissal occurred in the ninth over of the innings as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was on strike, drove it down the ground. The right-arm pacer stuck his hand out to stop it, but the ball hit his hand before striking Rahmat on his body and onto the stumps.

The 31-year-old was found short of the crease at the non-striker's end and had to walk back to the pavilion for a single.

Afghanistan made two changes for the dead rubber fixture, with Naveed Zadran and Fareed Ahmad replacing Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan. South Africa, meanwhile, made a solitary change as all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo replaced left-arm seamer Nandre Burger.

The Afghans have already won the series as they beat their opposition by six wickets and 177 runs in the first and second ODI, respectively.

The South Africans delivered a fiery bowling performance to restrict Hashmatullah Shahidi and his men to 169 in an innings that lasted only 34 overs. Ngidi, who affected the unfortunate run-out of Rahmat, produced tidy figures of 6-1-22-2. Nqabayomzi Peter and Phehlukwayo also took two each, while Bjorn Fortuin finished with one.

At the time of writing, South Africa had lost three wickets in Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks, and Tony de Zorzi while trying to chase 170. However, they look like firm favorites to clinch victory, avoiding a series sweep. South Africa will play a couple of T20Is and three ODIs against Ireland after this.
