[Watch] Prithvi Shaw registers third consecutive fifty in One Day Cup, hits quickfire 72 off 59 balls vs Worcestershire

Prithvi Shaw once again starred with the bat for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup. The right-hander scored 72 runs off 59 balls with the help of one six and 10 boundaries against Worcestershire on Sunday, August 4. Shaw shared a 108-run partnership with Ricardo Vasconcelos for the opening wicket.

It was his third consecutive fifty in the 50-over tournament. Shaw recently scored 97 (71) against 76 (58) against Durham and Middlesex, respectively.

Shaw has become one of the leading run-getters in the tournament, scoring 294 in five innings at an average of 58.80. The Mumbai batter is only behind Sol Budinger (297) and Ben Slater (296).

Prithvi Shaw also looked brilliant last season, scoring 429 runs in four innings, but a knee injury ruled him out for the remaining games.

“He has still got plenty of cricket in him” – Wasim Akram on Prithvi Shaw

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram believes Prithvi Shaw has a lot to offer to cricket. The cricketer-turned-commentator wants the Mumbai batting prodigy to play a lot of first-class cricket to make a comeback to international cricket. Akram told Sportskeeda during IPL 2024:

“I haven't watched him closely this year, but he has to go back to basics, play first-class cricket and score big. Focus on cricket, not parties. He has still got plenty of cricket in him, just go back and play first-class cricket. Get a lot of centuries and make a comeback. That's the only way. There's no shortcut. He has got time on his hands, and that's good for him."

“He has to play regularly, and look at himself off the field. Do as many parties as you want after you retire, who cares. But now, focus on cricket,” he added.

Prithvi Shaw played his last game for India in July 2021. He managed to play just eight games for Delhi Capitals (DC) each in the last two editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to poor form.
