England's swashbuckling opener Phil Salt smashed a monstrous six to reach his half-century in The Hundred on Friday, August 9. The Lord’s in London hosted the game between London Spirit and Manchester Originals.

The humongous shot came off the 67th ball of Manchester Originals’ innings. Olly Stone bowled short of a length ball outside off and Salt slapped it deep into over square leg for a massive six. The ball bounced its way out of the ground. Sharing the video on X, The Hundred’s official handle wrote:

“50 runs reached in Phil Salt style.”

Phil Salt smashed 58 runs off 41 balls at a strike rate of 141.46 with the help of two sixes and four boundaries. The wicketkeeper-batter also shared a 94-run partnership with Max Holden for the second wicket after the Originals lost their opening wicket for just three runs.

Overall, Salt has amassed 155 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 132.47 in The Hundred this season.

Phil Salt’s 50 helps Manchester Originals set a 136-run target for London Spirit in The Hundred competition

A captain’s knock proved handy as Manchester Originals put up 135/5 against London Spirit in The Hundred. Apart from Salt, Holden scored 38 runs off 29 deliveries, including three boundaries. Meanwhile, Wayne Madsen and Paul Walter chipped in with unbeaten scores of 17 (9) and 15 (11), respectively. Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone bagged two wickets apiece for London Spirit.

Holden reckoned that the match was evenly poised but backed his side to cross the line. He said in the mid-match show (via Cricbuzz):

“We have runs on the board and playing for Middlesex, I know it's good to defend here. if we get wickets upfront, we have a good chance. The wicket is a little tricky. It’s a good score and hopefully, we can defend it.”

Manchester Originals are searching for their first win of this season after losing all their first games in the men’s competition. Meanwhile, London Spirit are in a similar position with a solitary win in five matches. Thus, the two teams are placed last and seventh in the points table. They are unlikely to qualify for the knockout matches.
