Veteran Australian and New South Wales spinner Nathan Lyon used the notorious bail-switch trick during a Sheffield Shield 2024 clash against South Australia in Sydney. A video of the same was uploaded on Friday (October 11) by cricket.com.au.

The incident occurred after the 56th over of the innings sent down by the 36-year-old himself. With the partnership between captain Nathan McSweeney and Alex Carey going strong in South Australia's second innings, the veteran decided to use the bail-switch trick.

The trick was first spotted being used by retired England seamer Stuart Broad whenever his side needed a breakthrough and interestingly, it has worked on a few occasions. Team India skipper Rohit Sharma had also used it during the Chennai Test against Bangladesh recently.

With all-rounder Cameron Green likely to undergo surgery for his back injury, Nathan Lyon is ready to bear the extra workload in the marquee five-Test series against India. He also reckons Australia have enough options to cover for Green's injury. The 36-year-old said, as quoted by Perth Now:

"I'm preparing to. I'm wanting to bowl a lot of overs. That's what I love doing in Test cricket. I'll do whatever I have to do for the team. Pat knows that, everyone knows that. Trav bowled pretty well the other day in the one-dayer and so did Marnus so I think we've got enough options. You've (also) obviously got the three best bowlers in the world in my eyes. I think there's enough there to cover for the summer. It's going to be an amazing summer."

The record-breaking off-spinner took a fifer in the first innings against South Australia and has already bagged three in the second. Australia's five-Test series against India gets underway on November 22 in Perth.
