All-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt sealed the victory for England by hitting a boundary against South Africa in the ninth match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The game was played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE on Monday, October 7.

The key moment came on the second ball of the last over of England’s innings. With four runs needed for a victory, Sciver-Brunt executed a beautiful shot off the second delivery. She stepped down the pitch and lofted the full ball over extra cover, finishing the game in style.

Here’s a video of the winning moment:

Chasing a target of 125, England didn’t start well, losing opener Maia Bouchier (8) in the fifth over. Alice Capsey started well but was soon dismissed for 19 off 16.

Danielle Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt combined for a strong partnership of 64 runs off 55 balls for the third wicket. Wyatt-Hodge scored 43 while Sciver-Brunt finished unbeaten on 48 off 36 balls, as England won by seven wickets with four balls remaining.

This victory marked England's second consecutive win in the tournament, placing them at the top of Group B.

Sophie Ecclestone shines with the ball for England in the first innings

Batting first, openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits stitched a 31-run stand for the Proteas. Then, Wolvaardt (40) and Anneke Bosch (18) added 40 runs together; however, the latter's sub-par strike rate curtailed the team's momentum.

Although, all-rounder Marizanne Kapp (26) and Annerie Dercksen (20*) did well, South Africa finished at 124 for six in their allotted 20 overs.

Sophie Ecclestone delivered an impressive performance for England, taking two wickets and conceding just 15 runs in her four-over spell.
