On Tuesday, July 16, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami shared a video of himself cautiously bowling in the nets. The pacer was last seen in the Indian jersey during the 2023 ODI World Cup, which the Men in Blue lost in the final against Australia.

Shami was on fire in the World Cup, picking up 24 wickets in seven matches. In the semi-final clash with New Zealand, the right-arm bowler claimed seven wickets. It was reported that the prominent bowler was receiving injections for his ankle treatment throughout the World Cup campaign.

Earlier this year, the pacer had surgery on his Achilles tendon. Shami missed the 2024 T20 World Cup and the IPL due to the injury. Now, the bowler has been making progress toward his recovery. On Instagram, he posted a video of himself gently bowling a few deliveries in the training nets. He captioned the post:

“Vibing with the latest, grinding for the greatest.”

Kuldeep Yadav and Irfan Pathan commented on his post and used emojis to encourage him. Fans will be hoping to see Shami in the Indian jersey soon.

“I’m sure whoever comes with Gauti will find out how to get the best of Shami” - Former Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey on a smooth transition for the pacer

Mohammed Shami will be crucial to Team India's success when he regains fitness, as they prepare for the World Test Championship and the ICC Champions Trophy. After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rahul Dravid and the rest of the support staff's stint came to an end. Therefore, the pacer will find fresh faces when he returns. New coach Gautam Gambhir is likely to bring new members in the support staff.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the former bowling coach of the Men in Blue, Paras Mhambrey, said the new staff should talk to Shami and find out what he wants.

"The staff should talk to Shami and find out what he wants to do. He’s no longer young, so where does he fit in and how many more years does he look to play? How do we use him smartly? I’m sure whoever comes with Gauti will find out how to get the best of Shami," Paras said.

Team India is scheduled to face Sri Lanka in a three-game T20I and ODI series, starting July 27.
