Former Australian batter-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden mistakenly used the word 'sex' instead of 'six' while on air during the Australia vs England 2024 T20 World Cup match on Saturday, June 8. His slip of tongue left the commentary box in splits.
Ashes rivals Australia vs England are up against each other in match number 17 of the ICC Men's 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Bowling first after winning the toss, England conceded 201-7 in their 20 overs.
In the first over of England's chase, as left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc ran in to bowl the fifth delivery, Hayden committed a blunder on air. While referring to Jos Buttler, he said:
"He's got to bring all of that wisdom, sex, sixes inside that first six [overs]."
Knowing he had committed a faux pas, the Aussie legend cheekily added:
"Say that"
Hayden's comment, an obvious reference to his mistaken use of the word ‘sex’ instead of ‘six’, led to his co-commentators bursting out in laughter.
Speaking of the match itself, England were 99-3 after 11 overs in pursuit of 202. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa bowled Philip Salt for 37 off 23 balls, while skipper Buttler (42 off 28) reverse-swept one from the spinner to backward point.
England suffered another major setback when the big-hitting Will Jacks (10) was brilliantly caught by Starc at long-off off pacer Marcus Stoinis' bowling.

Sent into bat by England, Australia got off to an excellent start as their openers added 70 in five overs. David Warner was the first to go, bowled by Moeen Ali for 39 off 16 balls. Fellow opener Travis Head contributed 34 off 18. He was eventually castled by an offcutter from Jofra Archer.
Skipper Mitchell Marsh (35 off 25), Glenn Maxwell (28 off 25), Stoinis (30 off 17) and Matthew Wade (17* off 10) all chipped in to take the Aussies to 201-7. For England, Chris Jordan claimed two wickets, while Moeen, Archer, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone claimed one scalp each.
