Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Sunil Gavaskar has misunderstood the thinking behind one of his recent comments. He thus wants the Indian legend on the podcast featuring him and Adam Gilchrist so that he can clear the air over the same.
While speaking during an episode of the Club Prairie Fire podcast a few days back, Vaughan stated that Joe Root seems all set to break Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in Test cricket. In a tongue-in-cheek manner, he added that an Indian not holding the record would be good for the health of Test cricket. Gavaskar lashed out at Vaughan over the latter's views.
In a recent episode of the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Vaughan discussed the controversy and opined that the Indian legend has perhaps taken his opinion in the wrong sense. The 49-year-old commented:
"I have noticed this week that my social media's been popping a little bit with Sunil Gavaskar's... I think he's got the wrong end of the stick of one of my comments. A little bit tongue-in-cheek, but also there's a bit semi-serious in that.
"I do think it would help the game and I think Sunny's taken it the wrong way. So, I just keep getting these pop-ups from Indian online kind of news outlets that Sunny's attacked Vaughan," the former England captain continued.
Vaughan then urged Gilchrist to try and get Gavaskar on the podcast. He told the Aussie legend:
"Let's get Sunny on. How can we do that Gill?"
The former keeper-batter replied:
"Oh, we'll give it a go."

How Gavaskar responded to Vaughan's comments
Writing in his column for Sportstar, former India captain Gavaskar hit out at Vaughan over his comments on the Root-Tendulkar debate. The Indian batting legend wondered how an Englishman being the leading run-getter would help Test cricket. The 75-year-old wrote:
"Recently, I heard someone saying it would be good for Test cricket if Joe Root overtook Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs and centuries in Test match cricket. Please tell us what's wrong with Test cricket presently when Tendulkar is owning the record and how, will Test cricket be better if (and that's a huge if) an Englishman goes on to hold it. In what way will it be better? Kindly enlighten us."
Tendulkar ended his Test career with 15,921 runs from 200 Tests. Root has so far amassed 12,402 runs from 146 matches.
