KL Rahul took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim in the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Day 3 (Saturday, September 21). Rahul dived forward at mid-on to complete the catch as Rahim departed for 13 runs off 11 balls, leaving the visitors in a spot of bother at 146-4 in the second innings, chasing 515.

The incident took place in the 34th over of Bangladesh’s innings. Rahim came charging down the track at Ravichandran Ashwin but failed to keep the ball down the ground. Rahul kept his fingers underneath the ball while falling on the ground to complete the catch inside the 30-yard circle. The on-field umpires sent the decision upstairs and the TV umpire confirmed it was a clean grab.

“He will be a different player” – Ravi Shastri reacts to KL Rahul’s flop show with the bat in 1st innings vs Bangladesh

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently shared that KL Rahul needed to come out with a positive mindset. The comments came as Rahul was dismissed after getting set in the first innings. The cricketer-turned-commentator said (via Sports Tak):

"KL Rahul needs to realize that he has got much of talent. The day he realises that and comes out with a mindset and thinking in that fashion. He will be a different player.”

Rahul scored 16 runs off 52 balls in the first innings before getting caught by Zakir Hasan at silly mid-on off Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The Karnataka batter, however, stayed unbeaten on 22 off 19 balls in the second innings.

He recently returned with scores of 37 and 57 in the Duleep Trophy. He had suffered a quadricep injury during the first of the five Tests against England earlier this year.

KL Rahul will look to deliver in the second Test against Bangladesh. The wicketkeeper-batter remains critical to India’s success in the ongoing Test season against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia. Overall, he has 2863 runs in 50 Tests, barring the ongoing game.
