England skipper Jos Buttler took a one-handed blinder to get rid of the dangerous Quinton de Kock in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against South Africa. The match was played at the Beausejour Stadium at Gros Islet on Friday, June 21. The catch gave Jofra Archer his first wicket as he made amends for leaking over 20 runs in his opening over of the innings.

The dismissal occurred in the 12th over as Buttler introduced the Barbadian for his second over. The 29-year-old sent down a pace-off delivery and the southpaw edged it, but it kept moving away from the keeper-batter. However, the Lancashire cricketer leaped to his left and took it cleanly.

De Kock took Archer to the cleaners when he bowled in the powerplay, belting him for two sixes and a boundary as he conceded 21 runs. The keeper-batter brought up his half-century off only 22 deliveries and was dismissed for 65 runs. He continued his form for Nepal from the previous match when he belted a match-winning 74.

Meanwhile, the toss fell in favor of England as the 33-year-old sent the Proteas into bat, citing it as a fresh wicket and the presence of moisture. The defending champions went in with an unchanged side South Africa, on the other hand, made one change by swapping left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for the right-arm quick Ottneil Baartman.

The Proteas are one of the three unbeaten sides in the tournament along with India and Australia. Led by Aiden Markram, South Africa pinned down the USA, who ran them close in pursuit of 194 despite slipping to 76-5 at one stage.

England, meanwhile, had a scratchy start to their title defence, but have found form since their loss to Australia. They sealed their spot in the Super 8 stage with a win over Namibia, followed by Australia defeating Scotland. However, England's eight-wicket triumph over the West Indies in their first Super 8 fixture was most impressive.
