England captain Jos Buttler returned to form with the bat and smashed five sixes in an over during the Super Eight match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against the United States on Sunday (June 23). The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, played host to this encounter.

The USA team batted first in the contest after losing the toss and were bowled out for 115 runs in 18.5 overs. Nitish Kumar (30), Corey Anderson (29), and Harmeet Singh (21) chipped in with useful contributions in the batting department. Chris Jordan (4/10) and Adil Rashid (2/13) were the picks of the English bowlers.

Jos Buttler then went on a carnage in the second innings and played a blazing knock of 83* (38) to power his side to a win in just 9.4 overs. Phil Salt (25*) lent him support at the other end. Buttler's five sixes against left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh in the ninth over was one of the highlights of the match. The English captain launched a stunning assault on Harmeet and smashed five sixes to take his side near the finish line.

"I feel I'm hitting the ball well"- England captain Jos Buttler after his match-winning knock vs USA in 2024 T20 World Cup

At the post-match presentation, Jos Buttler claimed that he had been feeling good about his batting even though he failed to get big scores till his side's Super 8 game against the USA. Reflecting on his performance, Buttler said:

"I have been feeling good all year to be honest. I feel I'm hitting the ball well and it's on me to look after my own game, as much as I'm the captain, I'm one of the 11 and I have got to do my job."

Reviewing his team's performance in the game, Buttler added:

"We give the USA a lot of respect. I thought if we could bring our intensity we'd be too good. We wanted to give ourselves a chance to top the group. Rashid and Livingstone were brilliant with the ball. We've got great options. We wanted to bring CJ (Chris Jordan) back for this game to add a bit of depth to the batting department with his batting capabilities as well. A World Cup hat-trick is a great effort from him."

The result of the match between South Africa and West Indies later today will determine whether England will finish at first or second spot in the points table.
