Guyana's Providence Stadium will play host to today's 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal match between India and England. In an unfortunate development for cricket fans, heavy rains have hit Guyana before the big game.

There is no reserve day for this semifinal match between India and England. If the match gets abandoned due to rain, then the team that finished higher in the Super 8s points table, which was India, will qualify for the final.

While there is still time for the match to begin, ANI shared a video clip from Guyana, with the following caption on X:

"Rain lashes Guyana ahead of semi-final clash between India and England in T20 World Cup 2024."

The video has received more than 80,000 views on X, with English fans concerned about the game. If the match does not take place at all in Guyana, then India will progress to the final and take on South Africa for the trophy in Barbados on Saturday.

How many overs need to be bowled for a result in India vs England 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal match?

It is pertinent to note that the ICC has changed some rules ahead of the T20 World Cup semifinals. Generally, in any T20I match, both teams need to bat at least five overs to determine a winner via the D/L method.

However, since this is a high-stakes semifinal match, the ICC has decided that the two teams need to bat at least 10 overs each before the winner is declared. Even if one team has batted 10 overs and another team bats for 9.5 overs when heavy rains hit the venue, then the match will be considered as abandoned, with India progressing to the final.

It will be interesting to see if fans at the Providence Stadium get to witness any action. The official start time for the match is 10.30 am local time (8 pm IST).
