Guyana Amazon Warriors wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan effected a brilliant stumping to dismiss Antigua and Barbuda Falcons opener Justin Greaves. The incident happened in the third over of match number 23 of the ongoing 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday, September 21.

It was an outside-the-off-stump-wide delivery by Guyana's slow left-arm orthodox bowler Gudakesh Motie. Greaves, who was on strike, came down the track only to see the ball spin further away and go beyond his reach. Behind the stumps, Azam collected the ball in one hand and dislodged the bails while Greaves was well outside the crease.

Guyana Amazon Warriors are on top of the 2024 CPL table

Earlier in the game, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons skipper Chris Green won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put into bat, the hosts did not have an expected start to their innings, losing opener Raymon Reifer for five runs on the third ball of the fifth over, with just 14 runs on the board.

Opening the batting alongside Reifer, Azam Khan scored 29 runs off 24 balls while Moeen Ali emerged as Guyana's highest run-getter of the evening, having amassed 42 runs off 33 deliveries, including three fours and as many sixes. Eventually, the Guyana Amazon Warriors finished their innings at 135-7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 136 runs for the victory, the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals only to get bowled out for 108 runs in 18.5 overs. Dwaine Pretorius and Moeen Ali emerged as the chief tormentors with the ball for Imran Tahir's men, picking up three wickets each.

Meanwhile, Ali was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round exploits, contributing 42 runs with the bat apart from finishing with the figures of 3-9 in his four-over spell. With this win, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are now at the top of the 2024 CPL table with 10 points and a net run rate of +1.071. Next up, they will be hosting the second-placed Barbados Royals on Wednesday, September 25.
