Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir offered prayers at the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday (June 30). Gambhir was a part of the Indian squad that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, and he is reportedly going to become India's next head coach.

India won the T20 World Cup 2024 yesterday at the Kensington Oval, and earlier today, Gautam Gambhir was spotted in Tirupati. Gambhir might have been expressing his gratitude for India's success and also seeking blessings for his new journey, which will reportedly begin soon.

Gambhir also spoke with the media in Tirupathi and congratulated skipper Rohit Sharma and the entire Indian squad for their triumph in the West Indies.

"The entire nation is very happy. I want to congratulate Rohit Sharma and the entire team," Gambhir said.

Gautam Gambhir will reportedly become India's next head coach, but before his arrival, the T20I team's most experienced batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have announced retirement. Both Kohli and Sharma retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup yesterday.

Reflecting on their decisions, Gambhir said:

"What better than finishing off the T20 career with a World Cup win? They are both great players and have done so much for Indian cricket. I want to congratulate them and wish them all the best."

Gambhir also mentioned that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue playing for India in ODIs and Test cricket. He was confident that the two star batters will continue their top form in the longer formats of the game.
