FC Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has extended his wishes to the Kolkata Knight Riders on behalf of the iconic German club ahead of their IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 fixture against Sunrises Hyderabad at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21. With 20 points from 14 matches, Shreyas Iyer's men finished the group stages in pole position.

They have a great opportunity of directly making it to this year's final if they can overcome the Orange Army.

An IPL playoff appearance after a 2-year hiatus for the Kolkata Knight Riders

The two-time winners came close to clinching their third title during the 2021 IPL season where they suffered a heartbreaking loss against Chennai Super Kings in the final. Led by the then 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan, the franchise lost the encounter which was held in Dubai by 27 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous two editions, finishing seventh among the 10 teams on both occasions. Adding to their woes, last year, due to a back injury, regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the entire season, forcing the management to appoint southpaw Nitish Rana as their captain.

This year though, under the mentorship of former captain Gautam Gambhir, who steered them to the title in 2012 and 2014, a resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders have been exceptional, losing just three out of the 14 games they have played.

They will be looking to maintain their winning momentum heading into Qualifier 1 so that they can seal a spot in the grand finale, which is set to be played in the venue where they lifted their first-ever IPL crown - Chepauk.
