Manchester Originals pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi cleaned up Ollie Pope of the London Spirit with a brilliant inswinger in the 23rd match of The Hundred Men's Competition 2024. The Dan Lawrence-led side are officially out of contention for the knockouts after recording a 12-run loss at Lord's on Friday, August 9.

The hosts were handed a target of 136 runs as Manchester Originals skipper Phil Salt led from the front with a fifty in the first innings. During the run chase, the London Spirit had an early setback as Farooqi dismissed Michael Pepper on the penultimate ball of the extended first set.

Fazalhaq Farooqi wrapped up his set on the perfect note as he got the better of the No. 3 batter Ollie Pope to reduce the opposition to 11-2 in no time. Farooqi pitched the ball on a fullish length while the right-handed batter tried to play an on-drive. However, the inward movement after pitching was too much for Pope to counter as the ball breached the gap between his bat and pad to crash into the stumps. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

The double strike by the 23-year-old left-arm pacer gave the visitors the burst of early momentum that they needed. The London Spirit lost Dan Lawrence with only 12 runs on the board to be three down. Despite a fightback from Shimron Hetmyer and Keaton Jennings, they finished at 123/5 and lost by 12 runs.

Fazalhaq Farooqi ends up with impressive figures of 3-24 off his 20 deliveries

Fazalhaq Farooqi also chipped in with the crucial wicket of Andre Russell in the dying stages of the innings. The left-arm pacer conceded only 24 runs while taking three wickets in his 20 deliveries.

The Afghan international recently finished as the leading wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup and he also had a fruitful run for Nottinghamshire in the Vitality T20 Blast.

Manchester Originals have already been knocked out of the ongoing competition after recording five losses in succession. Their triumph over the London Spirit marked their first win of the season, and they have only two matches remaining.
