Dhruv Jurel missed out on a well-deserved century in the 2024 Irani Cup match between the Rest of India and Mumbai at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Day 4 (Friday, October 4). The right-handed batter was caught behind after scoring 93 runs off 121 balls with the help of one six and 13 boundaries. With the wicket, Shams Mulani broke the 165-run partnership between Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran for the fifth wicket.

The dismissal took place in the 101st over of the Rest of India’s first innings. Mulani bowled a delivery from around the wicket that landed on the rough outside the leg stump. Jurel tried to help it on its way to fine leg but ended up getting a faint nick on the glove to wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore, who took a brilliant catch despite being blinded by Jurel.

Sharing the video on X, BCCI’s domestic handle wrote:

“Partnership Breaker! Shams Mulani breaks the 165-run stand as he has Dhruv Jurel (93) caught behind. An excellent catch from Hardik Tamore. Jurel misses out on his ton as a fine innings ends.”

The 23-year-old made his Test debut against England earlier this year. He amassed 190 runs in four innings, including a half-century.

“They will have to wait for their chances” – Parthiv Patel on Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan

Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel reckons that Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan will have to wait for their opportunities after Rishabh Pant made his comeback to Test cricket. He recently told ANI (via msn.com):

"I don't think Sarfaraz and Dhruv will make a comeback to the side. Rishabh has just made a comeback. Both of them are very very talented players and very much ready for Test cricket. But they will have to wait for their chances.”

Apart from Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan scored an unbeaten 222 in the ongoing Irani Cup match.
