Birmingham Phoenix's Dan Mousley stepped up with some stunning death bowling to guide his side to an unlikely win over the Trent Rockets in the 2024 Hundred at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Wednesday, July 31. With 10 runs needed off 10 deliveries, and five wickets to spare, the Trent Rockets were overwhelming favorites to win the clash. Tim Southee tried his best to set the game up for the final set by dismissing the dangerous Rovman Powell.

Off-spinner all-rounder Dan Mousley was tasked with bowling the final set ahead of the experienced candidates. He began with a couple of dot balls, putting some serious pressure on Lewis Gregory by nailing his yorkers. The string of dot balls resulted in Gregory's dismissal, as he was bowled by another yorker.

Mousley wrapped up the first half of his set with a couple of singles and was asked to continue and bowl the last five balls of the innings. Trent Rockets still had hope with two experienced players - Rashid Khan and Imad Wasim - being out in the middle.

However, the pair could not get the task done as Mousley continued to be accurate and choke the run flow. After starting the second half of his set on a brilliant note, the equation got complicated for the hosts, as they needed seven runs of the final three deliveries.

Mousley responded with the wickets of Rashid Khan and Jordan Thompson off successive deliveries and restricted the opposition to 132-8 as Birmingham Phoenix emerged victors by six runs.

Mousley had scored 11 runs off 12 deliveries in the first innings, before being dismissed by Rashid Khan.

"Try to keep it under the bat and try to get them to make a mistake" - Dan Mousley

Dan Mousley has been a vital presence for Birmingham Phoenix in the 2024 Hundred. Against the London Spirit, he took a spectacular catch on the boundary line while also playing a vital cameo with the bat in the low-scoring clash.

"Just try to get as many yorkers as I can. Try to keep it under the bat and try to get them to make a mistake. The closer you get to the finish the more nervous you get, it was about staying in the game till the end," Mousley said during the presentation ceremony (via Cricbuzz).

The Birmingham Phoenix are third on the points table after claiming two successive wins following the loss to the Oval Invincibles in the tournament opener.
