Colombo Strikers' Glenn Phillips produced an acrobatic fielding effort on the boundary line which saved a certain six during his side's Lanka Premier League 2024 fixture against Dambulla Sixers at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday, July 7. He did so on the second ball of the sixth over during the hosts' innings.

Colombo captain Thisara Perera bowled a slow off-cutter which was pulled by Kusal Perera who was on strike. Glenn Phillips was standing at deep mid-wicket and jumped high in the air. He caught the ball which was heading towards a six in his left hand and while still being airborne pushed it back onto the field.

An easy victory for the hosts against the Colombo Strikers

Earlier, Dambulla Sixers skipper Mohammad Nabi won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put in to bat, the Strikers posted 185-6 in their 20 overs powered by Glenn Phillips' half-century.

While openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Angelo Perera gave them the much-needed start with their valuable contributions at the top of the order, Chamika Karunaratne's cameo towards the end of the innings helped Colombo Strikers put up a challenging total on the board.

But the Dambulla batters made it look so easy as they chased down the target of 186 runs in 17.5 overs at the loss of just two wickets. Half-centuries from openers Reeza Hendricks and Kusal Perera ensured the Sixers amassed 154 runs in 14.4 overs for their first wicket partnership.

Following their dismissals, wicketkeeper-batter Lahiru Udana and Mark Chapman finished the proceedings for Dambulla Sixers, who thereby won the contest by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare.

Kusal Perera was adjudged Player of the Match for his spectacular knock of 80 off 50 deliveries which comprised eight fours and four sixes.

This was Dambulla Sixers' first win of the ongoing edition of the Lanka Premier League. Unfortunately, they suffered defeats in their first three matches. With two points, they are currently fourth in the five-team standings which is headed by Jaffna Kings. Meanwhile, Colombo Strikers are third with four points from as many matches.
