In what was pacer James Anderson's final game and the series opener, England registered a comfortable victory at Lord's. Powered by debutant Gus Atkinson's figures of 7-45, they bowled out the West Indies for just 121 runs in the first innings.

In reply, Ben Stokes' men posted 371 runs which extended their first innings lead to 250 runs. West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals as their batters failed to get going in the second innings as well. While James Anderson took three wickets, Gus Atkinson once again stepped up with the cherry, picking up five wickets, which took his overall match tally to 12 scalps.

Eventually, the West Indies could only manage 136 runs in their second innings, thereby losing the first test match by an innings and 114 runs. It was veteran James Anderson's 188th Test match. The 41-year-old retired as one of the greats of the game with 704 wickets to his name in the longer format.

The third and final Test match of the series is all set to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 26.
