Pacer Arundhati Reddy delivered the first breakthrough for India by dismissing the formidable Suzie Bates in their opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday, October 4. The game is being played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

The dismissal took place on the fourth ball of the eighth over. Arundhati bowled a length delivery on middle stump, and Bates tried to smack it out of the park, but it didn’t have enough power behind it and was caught at deep midwicket by Shreyanka Patil, giving the Women in Blue their first breakthrough.

Here’s a video of the dismissal:

The veteran cricketer scored 27 runs off 24 balls, hitting two boundaries. Bates' dismissal left New Zealand at 67/1 after 7.4 overs.
