Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, has been making headlines in domestic cricket. On Thursday, September 12, the 18-year-old claimed his second consecutive five-wicket haul in only his second first-class match.

He achieved this remarkable feat for Somerset in their 2024 County Championship clash against Surrey at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. On the last ball of the 67th over, Vaughan secured his second five-wicket haul.

Bowling around the wicket, the off-spinner delivered a full ball that pitched outside off-stump and spun back to hit the pads of Cameron Steel. The umpire promptly raised his finger, and the right-handed batter was dismissed without scoring.

Here’s the video of the moment:

Chasing 221, Dominic Sibley scored 56 off 183 balls, including five boundaries, for Surrey. However, no other batter could manage to stay in as Archie Vaughan and Jack Leach each took five wickets, leading Somerset to a 111-run victory.

Somerset, batting first, posted a total of 317. Tom Banton led the charge with 132 off 172 balls, including 16 boundaries and one six, while Archie Vaughan contributed 44 off 107 balls with four boundaries.

In reply, Surrey struggled early, losing openers Rory Burns (21) and Dominic Sibley (16) quickly. However, Ryan Patel (70) and Ben Geddes (50) formed a resilient 80-run partnership off 171 balls for the third wicket.

Tom Curran provided a powerful counterattack, scoring 86 off 75 balls with six fours and eight sixes, giving Surrey a four-run first-innings lead. Archie was exceptional for Somerset, taking six wickets for 102 runs in 37 overs, supported by Jack Leach, who claimed four wickets.

Somerset then scored 224 in their second innings, thanks to Craig Overton’s unbeaten 49 and Tom Banton’s 46, setting a target of 221 runs. Vaughan and Leach once again led the charge with five wickets each, securing a 111-run victory for Somerset.
