New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr could not make the most of her controversial reprieve as she fell for a painstaking knock of 13 from 22 deliveries in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup clash against India in Dubai on October 4. Kerr labored to 12 off 20 deliveries, struggling to get hold of the Indian spinners.

Then came a moment of controversy when she tried to steal a second run off the final ball of the 14th over only to be run out at the striker's end. However, after much discussion between the umpires, they decided that it was a dead ball after the first run was taken, much to the dismay of Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Yet, the 23-year-old could not capitalize on the let-off as she was dismissed two balls later. Kerr cleared her front leg to smash a full delivery outside off-stump over extra cover but could not get the desired elevation as Pooja Vastrakar took a simple catch to reward Renuka Singh with her first wicket.

Here is a video of Kerr's dismissal:

Kerr's wicket was a continuation of dominance from the Indian bowlers after the powerplay as New Zealand collapsed from 67/0 in the 8th over to 99/3 in the 15th over.

New Zealand recover after Amelia Kerr's dismissal to post a competitive total

New Zealand got off to a sensational start of 55/0 after the powerplay against India in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup opener for both teams.

However, with the field spread out, the batters struggled to find their timing and the run rate drastically dipped. With Kerr's dismissal, they slid to 99/3 in 14.2 overs when skipper Sophie Devine took over.

The veteran batting all-rounder smashed a sparkling 57* off 36 deliveries with seven boundaries, helping New Zealand post a formidable 160/4 in 20 overs. Devine's onslaught meant New Zealand scored 59 off their final 32 balls in a spectacular finish.

For India, right-arm pacer Renuk Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 2/27 in four overs, while Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana chipped in with a wicket each.
