[WATCH] A dog enters the field & stops play during Durham vs Kent 2024 County Championship game

In an interesting event, a dog entered the field and interrupted play on the third day of match number 66 of the ongoing 2024 County Championship fixture between Durham and Kent at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Saturday, September 28. The incident happened in the 53rd over of Durham's first innings bowled by Kent's Jaskaran Singh. Durham skipper Alex Lees and David Bedingham were at the crease when action was halted due to the dog's entry onto the field.

Due to incessant rain and a wet outfield, the game's first two days of play were called off. Hence, the toss took place only on the morning of day three which Kent captain Jack Leaning won and opted to bowl first.

Durham placed 5th while Kent are last among 10 teams

Put into bat, Durham got off to a solid start with an 80-run opening wicket partnership between skipper Alex Lees and Ben McKinney which set the foundation for a strong innings. Lees top-scored for his side in the first innings amassing 144 runs off 180 balls which included 18 fours.

While Emilio Gay scored 52 runs off 96 deliveries, David Bedingham smashed a quick-fire 66 runs off just 38 balls comprising three fours and six sixes. Eventually, Lees' men finished their first innings at 360 runs having been bowled out in 77.1 overs. Kent's 27-year-old right arm leg break bowler Matthew Parkinson was the pick of the bowlers with 6/109.

In reply, Kent were 96-3 in 24 overs at stumps on day three with skipper Jack Leaning and Jaskaran Singh at the crease.

Durham are currently placed fifth in the 2024 County Championship Division One points table with 158 points from 13 matches whereas Kent are at the bottom of the 10-team standings with 85 points from 13 matches.
