Sussex and Hampshire met in the South Group match of the Vitality T20 Blast 2024 at the County Ground in Hove on Wednesday, July 10.

Sussex batted first and lost their openers inside five overs. However, Tom Clark (37) and James Coles (46) forged an 83-run stand for the wicket. Tom Alsop added 35 runs while Danny Lamb contributed 22 runs and Nathan McAndrew scored a quick-fire 13-run knock off seven balls with the aid of two boundaries.

Brad Wheal and James Fuller chipped in two wickets each for Hampshire while Chris Wood and Liam Dawson took one.

In reply, Sussex dismissed opener Ben McDermott and Tom Prest inside the powerplay. However, Joe Weatherley (34) and skipper James Vince (32) built a 59-run partnership but didn’t get enough support from the rest of the lineup.

The match ended in 19.1 overs as Sussex bowled out Hampshire for 178. Coles was the pick of the bowlers with a four-wicket haul while Tymal Mills, Jack Carson, and Danny Lamb took one wicket each.

Leicestershire’s Rishi Patel (400) and Sam Hain (395) of Warwickshire Bears occupy the top two spots, respectively.

Daniel Hughes (354) and Michael Pepper (334) follow in the next two spots at an average of 35.40 and 37.11, respectively.

Sam Billings and Matthew Breetzke maintain their fifth and sixth positions, scoring 315 and 309 runs at impressive strike rates of 150.71 and 144.39, respectively. Tom Banton is still in seventh position with 308 runs.

Dawid Malan holds the eighth position with 298 runs, while Miles Hammond (292) and Jamie Smith (285) round out the top 10.

Tymal Mills remains at the top of the most wickets leaderboard with 20 wickets in 10 matches. David Payne is still in second place with 18 wickets.

Danny Briggs, Ben Raine, and Matt Taylor have 17 wickets each, occupying the next three positions.

Mason Crane is in sixth place with 16 wickets in eight innings. Jordan Thompson and Pat Brown occupy the next two spots, both with 16 wickets, averaging 18.50 and 19.75, respectively.

Sean Abbott and Ben Green have taken 15 wickets each and are ranked ninth and 10th, respectively.
