On Wednesday, June 12, Leicestershire and Durham faced off in the 40th Vitality T20 Blast 2024 match at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

Lancashire is leading the North Group table, having secured four victories in five matches. Yorkshire follows in second place, with three wins out of four games

Leicestershire climbed from fourth to third, boasting three wins and two losses after their recent 10-run victory over Durham. Meanwhile, Northamptonshire descended to the fourth spot with just one loss in four games.

Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Durham have two wins each, filling the next four positions in the standings. Nottinghamshire is at the bottom, having lost all five of their games.

Somerset now leads the South Group points table, having won three and losing two. Sussex and Surrey are not far behind, holding the second and third positions respectively, each having won three out of their four matches.

Meanwhile, mid-table teams like Kent, Glamorgan, Essex, and Hampshire need to leverage their NRR to improve their standings. They are ranked fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, with Net Run Rates (NRR) of 1.155, 0.140, -0.007, and -0.466, respectively.

Gloucestershire and Middlesex, ranked eighth and ninth with only one win each, have the potential to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming games.

Leicestershire climbs to third spot, hands Durham their third loss

Durham opted to bowl first and restricted Leicestershire to a modest total of 140 for eight. Rishi Patel opened the innings for Leicestershire and delivered a 48-run knock, featuring seven boundaries. Rehan Ahmed (20) and skipper Peter Handscomb (26) combined and added 46 runs to the total.

Matthew Potts spearheaded Durham’s bowling attack with a three-wicket haul, while Ben Raine took two wickets.

In reply, Leicestershire bowled pretty well and halted Durham to 130 for eight. Graham Clark (53) and Ashton Turner (49) were the top-scorers while the rest of the lineup was dismissed in single digits.

Wiaan Mulder picked up two wickets for Leicester and rest the of the bowlers took one, except Rehan Ahmed.
