As many as five Vitality T20 Blast 2024 matches were played on Thursday, July 18. These included two North Group and three South Group fixtures.

In the first match of the action-packed day, Derbyshire upstaged Worcestershire at Worcester’s County Road by five wickets in a last-ball thriller. Chasing 170 for a win, Wayne Madsen anchored the innings with a calculated 44 before Ross Whiteley went berserk towards the end with a match-winning 41*. Earlier in the game, Derbyshire fast bowler Pat Brown hogged the limelight through his four-wicket haul.

Gloucestershire, up against Middlesex at Chelmsford for a South Group match, amassed 179/8 off the back of a 54-ball 87 from opener Cameron Bancroft. The total turned out to be a match-winning one for Gloucestershire, as their bowlers, primarily Matt Taylor (2/17), Oliver Price (1/14), and David Payne (1/26) managed to keep Middlesex down by 10 runs at 169/7.

In a high-scoring spectacle at Northampton, hosts Northamptonshire made 197/6 from 20 overs, with Saif Zaib headlining the innings through his 41-ball 86. Chasing 198 for a win, Birmingham Bears managed just 186/6 despite featuring a scintillating 60-ball 93 from Sam Hain and a 31-ball fifty from Jacob Bethell.

At the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, Somerset fast bowler Ben Green picked up a four-fer to restrict Sussex to 158/9 from 20 overs. In response, Somerset opener George Thomas and number four Tom Abell listed attacking 40s to cater themselves to a six-wicket win in the 18th over of the match.

In the final match of the day between Hampshire and Surrey at the Kennington Oval, the former amassed 183, courtesy of a 45-ball 66 from Toby Albert. In the chase, all-rounder Sam Curran made a mockery of Hampshire’s competitiveness as his unbeaten 58-ball 102 helped Surrey gun down their 184-run target with five wickets and five balls to spare.
