The Vitality T20 Blast 2024 made its return after a two-day hiatus on July 16 with a South Group match between Kent and Glamorgan at Canterbury’s St Lawrence Ground.

In a rain-curtailed 13-over game, Glamorgan charted a staggering 145/6 courtesy of a 26-ball half-century from Marnus Labuschagne. Glamorgan’s cause was also assisted by 18 extras sent down by Kent bowlers, as well as a fiery 13-ball 26 cracked by middle-order batter Colin Ingram.

For Kent, Nathan Gilchrist snapped two wickets to finish with a tight three-over spell of 2/21. His teammates Marcus O'Riordan and Joey Evison also seized a wicket each, albeit at the cost of expensive short spells in the high-scoring Glamorgan innings.

In response, Kent batters fought valiantly despite losing both openers within the first five overs to Dan Douthwaite (1/22) and Mason Crane (1/35). Captain Sam Billings at number four smacked four boundaries and a six off the 17 deliveries he faced to score 33 before he became the first of Timm van der Gugten’s two Kent victims of the day.

Tom Rogers flogged 31* off 12 towards the end but Kent eventually fell 13 runs short of Glamorgan.
