Virat Kohli achieved yet another landmark with the bat in the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Day 4 (Monday, September 30). The right-handed batter became the fastest to 27,000 runs in international cricket, achieving the feat in 594 innings.

Kohli broke the previous record held by former India captain Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached the milestone in 623 innings.

Kohli achieved the landmark during his 47-run knock off 35 balls against Bangladesh for India in the first innings.

In Tests, Kohli now has 8918 runs in 115 Tests. The right-handed batter has also amassed 13906 (295 ODIs) and 4188 (125 T20Is).

Overall, Kohli is now the fourth batter to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket. He is only behind former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (27483), erstwhile Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara (28016) and Tendulkar (34357).

Apart from Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja became the second-fastest Indian bowler to notch up 300 wickets in Tests after Ravichandran Ashwin in the ongoing contest against Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli misses out on well-deserved half-century in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd Test

Virat Kohli missed out on a well-deserved fifty against Bangladesh in the second Test. The 35-year-old was cleaned up by Shakib Al Hasan as he attempted a big shot. He had previously managed scores of 6 and 17 in the opening Test against Bangladesh.

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg believes that Virat Kohli has fallen way behind Joe Root (12402 runs in 146 Tests) on track of Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs (15921 in 200 Tests) in the red-ball format.

He recently said on his YouTube channel (via Indian Express):

“I just don’t think Virat is going to get there. I think he’s lost his momentum and the momentum that he’s lost has been for a number of years now. He’s got to turn around in the next 10 Test matches, or he’s going to drop off.”

As far as the match is concerned, the visitors put up 233 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud top scored with an unbeaten 107 off 194 balls, including one six and 17 boundaries. Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, picking up three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Akash Deep bagged two wickets each.

In response, the hosts declared at 285/9 in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat, scoring 72 off 51, hitting two sixes and 12 boundaries. KL Rahul also chipped in with a quickfire 68 off 43 deliveries, including two sixes and seven boundaries.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan shared a four-wicket haul apiece.
