On Friday, August 16, the Melbourne Stars faced Tasmania in the 22nd match of the Top End T20 Series 2024. Meanwhile, the Northern Territory clashed with the Australian Capital Territory in the 23rd match, followed by Pakistan Shaheen taking on the Bangladesh High-Performance XI.

Northern Territory and Pakistan Shaheens are still in the top two spots of the Top End T20 points table with four wins and a positive net run rate of 0.578 and 0.396, respectively.

Tasmania jumped from eighth to third spot with six points after a convincing victory over Melbourne Stars Academy. Meanwhile, Melbourne Renegades Academy slipped to fourth position with six points and Bangladesh A dropped to fifth after their last defeat against the Shaheen.

Australian Capital Territory moved to sixth after an 11-run loss while Adelaide Strikers Academy slipped to seventh. Meanwhile, the Stars dropped to eighth while Perth Scorchers Academy remained at the bottom with four points.

Tasmania, Northern Territory and Pakistan Shaheens win on Friday

Tasmania elected to field first and restricted Melbourne Stars to 132/6, with Hilton Cartwright scoring a fifty and Will Prestwidge taking a three-wicket haul. In reply, Tim Ward (34) and Jake Doran forged a 55-run partnership for the second wicket. Doran’s match-winning 67-run unbeaten knock helped them secure a seven-wicket victory in 16.1 overs. Reiley Mark took two wickets for the Stars.

In the following game, Northern Territory posted a 187-run target for the loss of eight wickets. D'Arcy Short top-scored with 57 off 32 while Jake Weatherald added 30 off 27. Hanno Jacobs took three wickets for the Australian Capital Territory while Scott Murn and Esam Rahman picked up two each.

In reply, despite Mikey McNamara’s 49 and Rahman’s 42, the Capital Territory failed to reach the target, falling short by 11 runs. Hamish Martin secured three wickets, Charlie Smith bagged two while Caelan Maladay and Matt Hammond took one.

The third game between Bangladesh High Performance XI and Pakistan Shaheens saw the latter winning by three wickets. With Shamim Hossain’s 44* and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby’s 41, Bangladesh set a 142-run target. Faisal Akram claimed a three-wicket haul for the Shaheens.

In reply, Pakistan achieved the target in 18.5 overs thanks to skipper Mohammad Haris (32) and Omair Yousuf (37). Abu Hider went wicketless while the rest took one wicket apiece.
