New Zealand inched closer to a famous victory in India due to a brilliant performance of their bowlers on Day 4 of the first Test in Bengaluru. At stumps on Saturday (October 19), they remained 0/0 in their second innings in a chase of 107.
Team India began the day with an overnight score of 231/3 in their second innings. Sarfaraz Khan (150) continued from where he left the previous evening and raced to his maiden Test century in the first session. Rishabh Pant (99) also joined in on the fun and smashed an enterprising half-century. The duo put on a 177-run partnership for the fourth wicket and helped India erase the deficit of 356 runs and take a lead.
New Zealand pacers then brought their side back into the contest with a brilliant show with the second new ball. They triggered another collapse, reducing the hosts from 408/3 to 462 all-out in the space of 15 overs. Matt Henry and William ORourke scalped three wickets apiece for the Kiwis side in the bowling department.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra reviewed the fourth day's play of the Bengaluru Test after stumps on Color's Cineplex. He opined that Sarfaraz Khan departed due to a concentration lapse after reaching a milestone score of 150.
Chopra felt that it was a crucial moment in the match. He reckons Sarfaraz's mistake cost India some valuable runs, which might have made the chase tricky for New Zealand.
"The bowling was looking deflated before that but as soon as they got the new ball, there was a spring in the stride, and they were bowling in the right areas. Since he had reached 150, maybe there was a slight concentration lapse, or else he doesn't play drives," Aakash Chopra said.
"He played one in the first innings and got out. In the second innings, he played another drive, and this was the second, that's it. He committed a mistake."
Chopra added:
"When he looks back, he will think the story would have been very different had he spent another one or two hours. Whether you score 400 or 800, you play six batters because of this only. Only three or four score runs. The other two are insurance policy because they have to get out.
"150 is a lot of runs but since you were behind by 356, you feel a few more could probably have been scored. If they had been scored, the story might have been a little different."
