IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans held off Nellai Royals Kings batters to secure a five-run win in match 23 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 season. It took place in Tirunelveli on Wednesday, July 24.

The outcome lifted the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans to number four on the TNPL 2024 points table. They have three wins and three defeats amounting to six points from six games. Despite securing as many points, Dindigul Dragons are ranked fifth on the eight-team standings, as their NRR of 0.036 falls below that of the Tamizhans.

Lyca Kovai Kings remain the season’s table-toppers with five wins and just a solitary defeat from six outings. As of now, their NRR stands at a formidable 0.813. The Kovai Kings are followed by second-placed Chepauk Super Gillies with an NRR of 0.511. Trichy Grand Cholas, with three wins and three defeats from six matches, take the third spot on the table with a healthy NRR of 0.408.

Nellai Royal Kings slipped to number six on the table after losing to IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on July 24. Siechem Madurai Panthers, with three points from five matches, occupy the seventh position. Meanwhile, SKM Salem Spartans continue to languish at the bottom with just one win from six attempts.


Raheja’s 13-ball 41 and T Natarajan’s four-fer sets up Tamizhans win

IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans lost opening batter Amit Sathvik for a first-ball duck as he was cleaned up by Emmanuel Cherian. Overcoming the early setback, wicketkeeper-batter Tushar Raheja launched five boundaries and three sixes in his sizzling 13-ball cameo, yielding 41 runs at the top of the order. He shared a 64-run partnership with number three batter and half-centurion Radhakrishnan (50 off 35 balls).

Mohamed Ali and S Ganesh charted valiant 30s in the backend of the innings as IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans listed a competitive 189/8 from 20 overs. For the Nellai Royal Kings, Ragupathy Silambarasan picked up three wickets. He got timely assistance via breakthroughs from Emmanuel Cherian (1/24), Sonu Yadav (1/29) and NS Harish (1/29).

In response, Nellai Royals Kings slipped to 56/3 in 6.4 overs in a chase of 190. Captain and opening batter Arun Karthik alone held his team’s fort at the top of the order. He made 51 runs from 36 balls to defy the opening spells of IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans’ new-ball attack.

Rithik Easwaran at number five also listed a cracking 59 from 35 balls while Sonu Yadav clobbered a few hits on his way to an attacking 23-ball 40. Unfortunately for the Royal Kings, none of the other batters in their line-up managed to list a double-digit score. They fell short of their target by five runs in a last-over thriller.

T Natarajan starred with the ball for the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by claiming four wickets at the expense of just 36 runs from four overs. Fast bowler Ramalingam Rohit also snared three with the ball, picking up each of his victims in the penultimate over of the match.
