Lyca Kovai Kings picked up their fifth win in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 season after beating Siecham Madurai Panthers by 43 runs on Tuesday. Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, the Kovai Kings posted a competitive score of 163 in the first innings.

Four out of their top five batters got starts but failed to convert that into big scores. Sai Sudharsan got out in the 13th over after playing a solid knock of 34 to 26. The Kings had scored 94 for the loss of four wickets at that stage.

They would have been bundled out for a low score but skipper Shahrukh Khan stepped up, once again, with a rollicking knock of 51 off 26 balls.

As for the Panthers, Ajay Krishna was the standout performer as he picked up four wickets for 20 runs in three overs. R Mithun was also brilliant with his three-over spell, picking two for 12.

The Panthers needed a good start but, instead, lost two wickets for just eight runs inside the first two overs. Wickets continued to fall even as Jagatheesan Kousik tried to steady things at the other end.

Half of the side was back to the pavilion with the Panthers only managing 55 in the first eleven overs. The game was all but over after Thamarai Kannan sent Koushik back for 27 off 21.

R Mithun (26 off 22) and Karthick Manikandan (22 off 14) played decent cameos but only to delay the inevitable. The Panthers were, eventually, restricted to 120 runs.

It was a scintillating performance with the ball from the table toppers. Gowtham Thamarai Kannan was no less than sensational, returning with figures of 4 for 20 in four overs. M Siddharth returned with stellar figures of 2 for 20 in three overs.
