Oval Invincibles defeated Welsh Fire by six wickets in match six of The Hundred Women’s 2024 season on Sunday, July 28 at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.

Through the latest outcome, Oval Invincibles dethroned London Spirit to take the number one position on The Hundred Women’s points table. They have two wins in as many games. London Spirit, also with two wins, slipped to number two on the eight-team standings owing to a slightly inferior NRR of 0.664.

Trent Rockets takes the third spot with a win to its credit and an NRR of 1.000. They are followed by Welsh Fire at number four after falling to a six-wicket defeat to Oval Invincibles.

Southern Brave, Manchester Originals and Northern Superchargers take the subsequent three slots on the points table. They've failed to win their respective opening games of the competition. Birmingham Phoenix continues to languish at the bottom of the eight-team list for slumping to two defeats in two outings.


Alice Capsey headlines perfect Oval Invincibles run-chase

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Welsh Fire lost captain Tammy Beaumont and number three Hayley Matthews early in the innings. Marizanne Kapp (1/19) and Amanda-Jade Wellington (2/29) took their wickets, respectively. Opener Sophia Dunkley fought back for Welsh Fire by cracking 35 from 26 balls and shared 46 runs with wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce.

Beaumont eventually became Wellington’s second victim of the innings at 66/3. Jess Jonassen’s unbeaten 32 took Welsh Fire to 116/5 from 100 balls. For Oval Invincibles, fast bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay also picked up two wickets during the backend of the innings to claim figures of 2/20.

Chasing 117, Oval Invincibles captain Lauren Winfield-Hill made her way back to the sheds for a two-ball duck against Shabnim Ismail. Fortunately for the Invincibles, number three Alice Capsey belted 59 runs off 48 balls. He shared handy partnerships with Paige Scholfield (11 off 11 balls) and Marizanne Kapp (26* off 19 balls).

Off-spinner Georgia Davis (3/33) waged Welsh Fire rebellion. However, her three-wicket burst was tendered in vain as Oval Invincibles cantered themselves to a six-wicket win in 88 balls.
