The Trent Rockets Women and Birmingham Phoenix Women locked horns in the ninth match of The Hundred Women's 2024 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Wednesday, July 31. The latter won the match by three runs.

Oval Invincibles and London Spirit Spirit retain the top two spots with four points each. They are boasting a Net Run Rate of 1.603 and 0.664. After suffering their first loss against Manchester Originals on Monday, Trent Rockets lost their third game against Phoenix by three runs. They have two points and an NRR of 0.603.

Similarly, Welsh Fire and Manchester Originals also retained their fourth and fifth positions with two points and a negative NRR of -0.200 & -0.204, respectively. Birmingham Phoenix jumped from eighth position to sixth following their previous first win over the Rockets.

Southern Brave and Northern Superchargers are ranked in the last two spots, having lost one game while one ended with no result.

Ellyse Perry’s all-round magic guides Birmingham Phoenix to maiden victory

Birmingham Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost opening batter Sophie Devine for 17 runs off 21 balls. However, Sterre Kalis and Ellyse Perry stitched a 102-run partnership for the second wicket.

Kalis scored a fine 48-run knock from 42 deliveries, featuring five boundaries. Meanwhile, skipper Perry’s match-winning 66 off 34 with 10 boundaries, helped them set a 140-run target for three wickets. Alana King and Heather Graham took one wicket in 20 balls for the Trent Rockets.

In reply, opener Bryony Smith gave a slowish start to her side with a 25-ball 23-run knock but her partner Grace Scrivens was dismissed for six in nine balls. Later, Trent skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed a notable 59-run inning from 37 balls with 10 fours. Graham also added 30 off 12 with four fours and one six but failed to reach the mark and fell short by three runs.

Charis Pavely and Katie Levick chipped in two wickets for the Phoenix while Perry took one in 10 balls, including six dot balls.
