Birmingham Phoenix succumb to Oval Invincibles’ all-round brilliance in a 45-run defeat

Birmingham Phoenix Women won the toss against Oval Invincibles Women and elected to bowl. Oval Invincibles lost their first wicket for 28 runs. Paige Scholfield and Alice Capsey added 90 runs for the second wicket off 55 deliveries. Scholfield played a knock of 71 runs off 40 deliveries, while Capsey made 52 runs off 40 deliveries.

The half-centuries from the two batters helped Oval Invincibles post a total of 150 runs for the loss of five wickets off 100 balls. Emily Arlott was the pick of the bowlers for Birmingham Phoenix and took two wickets for 19 runs. Katie Levick and Hannah Baker picked one wicket each.

Birmingham Phoenix lost their first wicket for 32 runs and the next two wickets without adding any runs to the total. Sophie Devine and Amy Jones added 32 runs for the fourth wicket.

Jones scored 21 runs off 15 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the Birmingham Phoenix. Only four batters managed to make more than 10 runs for the team. Birmingham Phoenix were bundled out for 105 runs in 92 deliveries and lost the match by 45 runs.

Amanda-Jade Wellington picked three wickets for nine runs, while Mady Villiers took two wickets for 17 runs. Marizanne Kapp, Sophia Smale, and Ryana Macdonald Gay took one wicket each. Scholfield won the Player of the Match award for her batting performance.
