London Spirit consigned Birmingham Phoenix to a 20-run defeat in Match 5 of The Hundred Women’s 2024 season on Saturday, July 27 at Lord’s.

The outcome helped London Spirit soar past Oval Invincibles to top the eight-team points table with two wins from two games. Moreover, their net run rate (NRR) stands at a formidable 0.664. The Oval Invincibles (2.250), Trent Rockets (1.000) and Welsh Fire (0.444) all lost a rung each to slip to number two, three and four respectively on the standings.

Defending champions Southern Brave is positioned at number five with an NRR of -0.337. They are followed by winless Manchester Originals and Northern Superchargers for the subsequent two slots on the table. The two aforementioned teams fell to huge defeats in their opening games of the competition.

The Manchester Originals finds itself placed sixth on the rankings, i.e., just above fellow battered-and-bruised Northern Superchargers, who occupy the seventh position on the basis of a slightly inferior NRR of -1.000.

Birmingham Phoenix succumbed to the bottom of The Hundred Women’s 2024 points table after crashing to their second successive defeat in the tournament. Furthermore, their negative NRR took a further beating to plunge down to -1.625.


Meg Lanning and Sarah Glenn orchestrate London Spirit’s second win

Batting first, Meg Lanning nearly batted throughout the London Spirit innings. The Australian-based opener smacked 53 runs off 41 balls and laced her innings with seven boundaries and a six. Cordelia Griffith and captain Heather Knight also conjured handy 20s before a lower-order collapse orchestrated by Katie Levick (3/24) and Emily Arlott (2/33) restricted London Spirit to just 147/9 from 100 balls.

Chasing 148, Birmingham Phoenix lost openers Sterre Kalis and Suzie Bates both within the first 30 balls. Captain Ellyse Perry fought back for the Phoenix with a valiant 65-run knock from 48 deliveries. Sophie Devine also made 37, albeit at a sluggish rate before Sarah Glenn’s three-wicket burst restricted Birmingham Phoenix to just 127/5 from 100 balls.

Glenn finished with figures of 3/22 from 20 balls as the London Spirit secured a huge 20-run win over the Birmingham Phoenix.
