The Birmingham Phoenix Women faced the Manchester Originals Women in the 32nd match of the Women’s Hundred 2024. It was the last league fixture and Edgbaston in Birmingham hosted it on August 15.

Only 70 balls were possible in the entire game as the rain played spoilsport. The match officials had to call off the game. It didn’t affect the top three standings in the points table though as both Phoenix Women and Originals Women were already out of the competition.

At the end of the league stage, the Welsh Fire Women topped the table with 11 points and a net run rate of +0.334. They will play the final directly. The Oval Invincibles Women also finished with 11 points but missed out due to run rate. They have +0.034 and sit below the Fire Women.

The London Spirit Women were the final side to qualify for the playoffs with nine points in eight games. They will face the Oval Invincibles Women in the Eliminator on August 17. The winner will take on the Welsh Fire Women on August 18.

The Northern Superchargers Women finished fourth in the points table with eight points in as many games. They have a net run rate of +0.942. The Trent Rockets Women also have eight points and follow the Superchargers Women with a net run rate of +0.407.

Rain plays spoilsport in the final league game of the Women’s Hundred 2024

Phoenix skipper Ellyse Perry won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts lost Sterre Kalis on 18 inside the powerplay.

Perry was joined by Fran Wilson who led the recovery work. Perry and Wilson were unbeaten on 20 and 14 respectively before the rain arrived. The scoreboard read 55/1 after 70 balls, with Lauren Filer the lone wicket-taker for the Originals Women.

Persistent rain forced the match officials to take the tough call to abandon the game. As a result, both Birmingham Phoenix Women and Manchester Originals Women grabbed a point each.

The knockout stage of the Women’s Hundred 2024 will begin on August 17. Welsh Fire Women, Oval Invincibles Women and London Spirit Women have qualified for the playoffs.
