The 2024 edition of the Women’s Hundred kicked off at the Kennington Oval London on Tuesday, July 23. The Oval Invincibles Women defeated the Birmingham Phoenix Women by 45 runs in the first game of the tournament.

The Phoenix Women elected to bowl first against the Invincibles Women, as the latter side went on to score 150/5 in the first 100 deliveries of the game. Paige Scholfield (71 off 40) and Alice Capsey (52 off 40) ensured their team a respectable score after the end of the first inning. Emily Arlott picked a couple of wickets for the Phoenix, while Katie Levick and Hannah Baker scalped a wicket each.

In reply, the Phoenix Women were bowled out for a paltry 105 in just 92 balls as Amy Jones (21 off 15) top-scored for them. Invincibles bowler Amanda-Jade Wellington wreaked havoc on the Phoenix Women batters as she took three wickets in 20 deliveries while her partner in crime, Mady Villiers, took two in 17 balls, helping the Invincibles win the game by 45 runs.

With the first game of the tournament done and dusted, Paige Scholfield is at the top of the highest runs-getters leaderboard after her scintillating 40-ball 71. Schofield scored her runs at a strike rate of 177.50 with 12 boundaries so far in the tournament.

The Oval Invincibles women's batter, Alice Capsey, is second on the list with 52 runs in one inning and a respectable strike rate of 130. Amy Jones of the Birmingham Phoenix Women is third on the list with 21 runs in one inning with two boundaries to her name.

There are four other batters who crossed the 10-run mark in this game, namely Sterre Kalis, Sophie Devine, Emily Arlott, and Lauren Winfield-Hill, with totals of 17, 13, 13, and 12 runs, respectively, and they occupy the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions, respectively. Charis Pavely, Marianne Kapp, and Suzie Bates round off the top 10 list, occupying the eighth, ninth, and tenth places, respectively.
